There Was War in Heaven

War in heaven -- Polaris and Thuban

from Google Images

Keeping in mind my previous studies on Revelation 12, showing that the Lord had originally named the stars in their constellations in the sky (Psalm 147:4; Job 9:9), there was war in heaven and the conductors of that war were the dragon and Michael, the Archangel. In the context of the theme of the battle between the dragon and the Strong Man in the heavenly constellations, this would be Satan versus Christ. Now, Christ is not an angelic being, but he does rule the angels of heaven, and that is all the prefix, arch, in archangel means. Jesus is God (John 1-3, 14) and not an angel (Hebrews 1:5-8, 13), but he is the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament, who bears the name YHWH (Genesis 22:11-12, 15-18; 28:12-22 compare with 31:11-13; 48:15-16). He is the Messenger (Angel) of the Covenant in Malachi 3:1, and this is Jesus. Read the rest of this entry »

The Child Who Would Rule All Nations

Child of Revelation 12

from Google Images

We are studying the twelfth chapter of Revelation, in which John saw several signs in the heavens. These, as I have shown in studies immediately previous to this one, are signs in the Zodiac, not Greek mythology, but signs which the Lord had given us that take note of the work he was doing among men. He gave these stars and signs their names (Psalm 147:4; Job 9:9), but his word had been corrupted by men to reveal “men, birds, beasts and creeping things” (Romans 1:21-23, 28) that reveal different stories than the Gospel, which they originally foretold. The Sign of the Dragon

Zodiac-dragon

from Google Images

In a previous study on Revelation 12 I mentioned the woman that John saw in the heavens, and showed that she represented Israel, giving birth to Jesus, according to the flesh (cf. Hebrews 7:14; Romans 1:3; Revelation 5:5; 22:16). Continuing in this study, John saw another wonder (G4952 – semeion) or sign in the heavens. It was a dragon, which in the context of the sign of the woman being Virgo, this second sign must be Draco the dragon constellation (Revelation 12:3) that appears in the sign Sagittarius. The Woman Who Brought Forth the Child

Virgo - woman

from Google Images

So many of today’s commentaries interpret the woman in chapter twelve of the Apocalypse to be the Church, yet how did the church give birth to Jesus? Didn’t Jesus give birth to the church? Moreover, some seem to put the war that occurred in heaven long before God created mankind, and, while others accurately put it in the first century AD. Those who place the war before the creation of man offer credence to Milton’s Paradise Lost by saying this present conflict in heaven alludes to a rebellion of angels, something which the Bible never mentions. These critics have absolutely nothing, not one iota of proof, to show that such a battle occurred in heaven, long before God created men on the earth. Such stories are myths and belong in pagan mythology, not in God’s word. Read the rest of this entry »

Blowing the Seventh Trumpet

Trumpet last

from Google Images

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and the kingdoms of this world—i.e. the kingdoms of the nations—suddenly became the kingdoms  of God and of Christ, and he (Christ) shall reign forever and ever (Revelation 11:15). Suddenly all Heaven rejoiced, as the twenty four elders fell down upon their faces worshiping the Lord God Almighty, thanking him for taking this great power to himself and reigning (Revelation 11:16-17). Refusing Burial for the Two Witnesses

Sacred Ground - 1

from Google Images

The beast in Revelation 11:7 will not permit “their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.” This implies that efforts by friends of the witnesses would be made to bury them, and those efforts would be denied. The question then arises, does this mean their bodies shall lay outside the tombs and in the street for 3 ½ days or 3 ½ years, as the case may be prophetically understood?[1] I don’t believe the sense is that they would not be allowed to be laid in tombs. Rather, the sense seems to be that they wouldn’t be permitted to be buried in the sacred ground of their fathers (cp. 1Kings 13:22). Read the rest of this entry »

Responsibility For the Witnesses Deaths

Guilty

from Google Images

In the context of Revelation 11:8 and the witnesses being slain and their bodies lying in “the” street of the great city, the Angel seems to be identifying those guilty of their slaying (cf. Matthew 23:34-35). Why else would he claim their dead bodies would lie in THE street of the great city? Surely the Angel knew Jerusalem had more than one street. Yet, he reckons it THE street, as though there were only one. Moreover, they wouldn’t be buried for 3 ½ days. If that were literally true, Jerusalem would have been defiled. It was the practice of the Jews to bury the dead on the day they died, and that before sundown. Otherwise, the city would be defiled. Read the rest of this entry »

Fire-Breathing Witnesses!

Two witnesses - fire

from Google Images

The men who would like to hurt the two witnesses would find fire coming out of the witnesses’ mouths to devour them, and every enemy who would seek harm the Lord’s witnesses would be killed in this fashion (Revelation 11:5). Of course this is apocalyptic language and not to be taken literally. There never was a fire breathing dragon, nor was there ever a man who was able to devour men, literally, through fire coming out of his mouth. The language is a metaphor for how the ministry of the witnesses would be protected by the Lord. For example, it was prophesied of Jesus that “he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked” (Isaiah 11:4). Obviously, Jesus didn’t literally slay anyone during his public ministry 2000 years ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Who Are the Two Witnesses?

Two Witnesses

from Google Images

Identifying who the two witnesses really are is something of a difficult task. So many have tried to do so, and, at least for my taste, they all fail to produce a likely interpretation. I cannot seriously consider the return of Moses and Elijah, who seem to have been endowed with the kind of powers the two witnesses employ. Nor am I able to justify the return of Enoch and Elijah on the grounds they never died, but ascended into heaven, something the Scriptures deny (John 3:13). Finally, (and there are probably other interpretations of which I am unaware) I do not suppose the two witnesses could be the faithful church. Such interpretations just don’t appear to be credible or good interpretations of what we find in the Apocalypse. Read the rest of this entry »

What Did the Two Witnesses Witness?

Witness

from Google Images

There seems to be a great deal of controversy over who the two witnesses are in the Apocalypse. They really are very mysterious figures and are likened to furniture found in the Holy Place of the Temple. Many people today look for them to arise shortly before the end of time (something the Bible never mentions), and they are supposed to figure prominently in a battle against a figure known as Antichrist (again something which the Bible never mentions—at least not in the context of modern interpreters). Some even believe Moses and Elijah are the witnesses and they will return to life. In any event, there isn’t a lack of colorful interpretations for these two Apocalyptic figures, but what does the Bible really say about them? Read the rest of this entry »

The Holy City Is Trodden Down

Trodden down

from Google Images

In Revelation 11:1 John was given the task to measure the Temple of God, but he was told leave out the outer courts (Revelation 11:2), which included the Altar of Burnt Offering and the Molten Sea of brass (1Kings 7:23; 2Kings 25:13), and all the way out to the Eastern Gate of the Temple compound. John’s measurement was to include only the House, itself, with its two main rooms and the furniture therein. The only exception was that he was also to measure the people who worshiped inside the House. This seems to act as a kind of separation between the elect and the unbelievers, as we have also seen in Revelation 7:1-8. Therefore, if nothing outside the House was measured, that also included the people outside the house worshiping in the Temple courts. Read the rest of this entry »

Measure the Temple of God

measuring-the-temple

from Google Images

How would you measure the Temple of God, especially if the Temple is a spiritual Temple, whereby the Apostles and Christ are its foundation, Jesus, himself, being its chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20-21)? If the disciples of Jesus are living stones, built up into a spiritual House or Temple (1Peter 2:4-5), with what tool would any of us be able to measure such a Temple. Yet, this is John’s task, and John does what he is commanded to do with the tool that he is given, and he describes it all in apocalyptic language in order to convey to us what human words are unable to describe (2Corinthians 12:4). What John Prophesied

Taste the Word of God

from Google Images

The voice that John heard in Revelation 10:8 was the same voice he heard from heaven, telling him to seal up what the seven thunders said in reply to the mighty Angel, who swore there would be no delay (Revelation 10:4). It was probably the same voice that he heard in Revelation 4:1, when he was invited into the Throne Room of the Lamb, which, as we have seen, was the Most Holy Place of the Temple. The Mysteries of Godliness and Iniquity

Mysteries

from Google Images

In my previous study, The Mysteries of God, I showed how these mysteries had no place in the worldviews of any nation on earth at the time of John’s writing. This is why Jesus’ disciples had such difficulty in grasping the idea that Jesus was not going to physically reign out of physical Jerusalem on a physical throne during the first century AD. Indeed, the scribes and Pharisees, who were the teachers of the Jews, didn’t understand even the basic elements of the Kingdom of God, which Jesus preached (Luke 17:20-21). So, it is little wonder why the pilgrims who visited Jerusalem during the Passover season, just before Jesus was crucified, couldn’t understand Jesus’ plain words that the Messiah must die (John 12:20-21, 32-34).
