The War Waged Against the Saints

War on the Saints

from Google Images

Those who “worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name” must “drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb; and the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:10-11). Image of the Beast & the 7 Sons of Sceva ~ Part 3

In the final post of this series I am considering the seven sons of Sceva, the high priest, and the seven ‘sons’ of Annas, the high priest of Jerusalem in the 1st century CE. In part one I compared the Image of the Beast, seen in Revelation 13:14, with these sons of Sceva mentioned in Acts 19:14, and placed them over against the Lamb with Seven Horns and Seven Eyes (the seven spirits or men, i.e. writers of the New Testament, who spread the Gospel throughout the world), mentioned in Revelation 5:6. My point in all this is to show a competition between the Kingdom of God and the rulers of the Jews who rejected Jesus. The ruling priests had declared war against the priesthood of Jesus, represented in the spirits gone out into the entire world (cp. Revelation 5:6). Read the rest of this entry »

Image of the Beast & the 7 Sons of Sceva ~ Part 2

Presently, I am considering the seven sons of Sceva, the high priest and the seven ‘sons’ of Annas, the high priest of Jerusalem in the 1st century CE. Earlier, I had written that the descendents of Annas comprised the Image of the Beast in Revelation 13, but do these things pertain to Acts 19:13-16 and exorcising of evil spirits? Image of the Beast & The 7 Sons of Sceva ~ Part 1

Awhile ago, I had been reading about a particular study theme in Lee T. Dahn’s blog showing both the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts have an underlying theme that contrasts the priestly family of Annas with the priesthood of Christ, the one being corrupt and the other holy. I found his point of view very interesting, and because of my reading his study, I have begun to recognize this theme behind some of the symbols in the book of Revelation. For example, I’ve already made the claim that the Image of the Beast is actually the seven sons or descendents of Annas, the high priest. Read the rest of this entry »

Mark of the Beast – Part 2

Many folks believe that one of the signs we are living in the last days is that only in today’s culture could the things of Revelation be understood. Only in today’s culture could some of the things that we find there be done. For example, how could people be prevented from buying and selling in the past? It is only through the technology of today’s culture that such a thing could be done. A computer chip could be implanted in the right hand and scanned by the store clerk and presto, no one could ever steal one’s identity or one’s goods. It all seems very logical and practical, but is it Biblical? We find the foundation for this idea in Revelation 13; notice: Read the rest of this entry »

The Mark of the Beast and 666

Mark of the Beast - 666

from Google Images

It was the second beast of Revelation 13 that caused the mark to be placed on the right hand and into the forehead (mind) of the Jewish people. I believe I have presented a good argument that this second beast was Annas, the High Priest, and the Image of the Beast was his high priestly family—namely seven High Priests who reigned in Jerusalem out of his family, while Annas was still alive. Therefore, if Annas is responsible for the mark that refers to the beast with the deadly wound, the mark should have something to do with Jewish worship that turned the Jews away from God and caused them to ignorantly worship the Beast. What is the Image to the Beast

Roman Triumphal arch panel copy from Beth Hate...
Image via Wikipedia

In Revelation 13:11-18 a beast is revealed to us who looks like a lamb, a godly person, but he speaks like a dragon—i.e. he speaks like an enemy, a slanderer, one who speaks and acts deviously (cf. Revelation 12:9). In an earlier study, Who is the False Prophet?, I determined that this beast was Annas the Jewish high priest of the 1st century AD. It is difficult to understand, today, just how powerful Annas really was as far as first century AD Judaism was concerned. We are told that, as the second beast of Revelation 13:11, he was the executor or national leader of the first beast, apostate Jerusalem, and that beast’s power came from the dragon (Revelation 13:2).[1] Read the rest of this entry »
