Healing the Deadly Wound

Deadly Wound

from Google Images

There are many theories among scholars concerning the beast receiving a fatal wound to one of its heads and its subsequent, miraculous healing. Some, for example, believe Nero’s death was the deadly wound, and his resurrection as Antichrist would be its healing.[1] Others claim that Nero was killed and “rose” to life in the person of Domitian.[2] Still others see the fall of the Roman Empire as the deadly wound, and its healing occurred with the rise of Charlemagne.[3] Yet, none of these (nor similar interpretations that might be named) seem to fit the context of the Apocalypse, which seems to put its culmination or fulfillment in the first century AD. Moreover, if no one was able to open and understand the contents of the scroll with its seven seals (Revelation 5:1-3), what causes us to think we are able to understand this book without letting Jesus reveal it to us through his words found elsewhere in the Bible (Revelation 5:4-5; cf. 2Peter 1:20)? The Locusts Prepare for Battle!

Roman Horseman

from Google Images

The Roman army was a very sizeable and mighty force to reckon with. They were noted for how swiftly they were able to mobilize their military forces and bring them to the battlefield. The locusts are compared with the war horse in Revelation 9:7, which are mentioned again in Joel 2, concerning a day of darkness and thick clouds (cf. Revelation 9:2), when a mighty army comes as horsemen in battle (Joel 2:2-4). Any Jew who was acquainted with the Scriptures would have understood that his only hope in gaining victory over such a military machine was, if God would take his side against the Roman oppressor. Nevertheless Jesus and his disciples through their preaching the Gospel claimed this would be a time of judgment against his people. Now, all the Jews could do was wait for the battle to come to them. They rejected their only Savior, so they faced the greatest war-machine of their day without any hope of victory (Luke 23:29-30; cf. Revelation 6:16). Read the rest of this entry »

My Study and Josephus

Josephus

from Google Images

In previous studies I have concluded that the Jewish high priest, Annas, is the “fallen star” of Revelation 9:1. That is, he brought the independent Jewish state back into existence, represented in the smoke arising from the pit of the abyss (Revelation 9:2). Nevertheless, the first century AD Jewish historian, Flavius Josephus, would not agree with my position, because he completely exonerates all the “high priests and the men of power.[1] Therefore, it becomes necessary to discover whether or not Josephus’ record is completely unbiased and true. If his record is true, my understanding about Revelation chapter nine is completely wrong, because my whole argument hangs upon the corruption of the high priests, especially Annas, and their desire to govern themselves.
