The Eschatology of the Thessalonian Epistles
The studies listed on this page concern the eschatological point of view that can be found in both of Paul’s epistles to the Thessalonians. The theme expressed by Paul is the coming of the Lord, and one can demonstrate very easily that this is so. For example, Paul mentions the coming of the Lord in (1Thessalonians 1:10; 2:19; 3:13; 4:13-18; 5:23; 2Thessalonians 1:7-10; 2:1-8; 3:5), that is, in each chapter of both epistles, Paul refers at least once to the Lord’s coming. Therefore, we are able to draw from this that eschatology is a main theme of both of these epistles.
Many believe that the coming of the Lord as described in 1Thessalonians 4:13-18 concerns an event that is yet to occur some 2000 years after Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, Nevertheless, this is a wrong analysis, and this can be demonstrated by showing the context of all of Paul’s references to the coming of the Lord in the chapters before 1Thessalonians 4 and in all of the chapters in 2Thessalonians point to Jesus’ coming in judgment of the Jews in 70 AD. Thus, it becomes the problem of those who disagree to show how 1Thessalonians 4 is different from every other mention of Jesus’ coming throughout both epistles to the Thessalonians.
These studies have been largely drawn from a YouTube study series delivered by Don K. Preston, the President of the Preterist Research Institute of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
