Introduction to the Apocalypse

Book of Revelation

John tells us he was in the Spirit on the Day of the Lord. Lots of folks like to tell us that he is really saying he was in the Spirit on Sunday (the Lord’s day), but they have absolutely no foundation for what they claim. Such theology is purely subjective and unwarranted. Throughout the Prophets of the Old Testament we find predictions that concern “the Day of the Lord” but not one reference between Genesis to Revelation that would change the words to mean “the Lord’s Day” (Sunday). Such an understanding is completely subjective and would contradict the context. In the first chapter of Revelation we are introduced to a glorified Jesus, someone we couldn’t possibly have anticipated from the Gospel narratives. The very first verse alerts us to an unveiling of him that would change anyone’s understanding of him who knew him only from his earthly ministry and yielded to his leadership. From the very beginning of the Apocalypse, and with no apology, Jesus is presented to us, not only as the Prophet, Priest and Messiah, but as God, himself.
