What Is the Nature of the Kingdom?

Luke 17:

from Google Images

Many of us have been led to believe that Jesus will one day establish his Kingdom on earth, centered in Jerusalem. From there he will rule the nations. Yet, Jesus said in Luke 17:20-21 that the Kingdom of God is within you. One won’t be able to see it with his eyes. He won’t be able to say it is here or over there. Rather, it is within you. This certainly goes against the theology of many, but I wonder, if God doesn’t rule our hearts, would he ever be able to rule the world? Certainly, God could force man to do anything he wished, but if that were what God wanted to do, why would he give man freedom of choice? Luke 17:20-21 implies God isn’t seeking robots to use as he wishes, but men to choose what God wishes. In other words, God desires men to image him (Genesis 1:27), just as he was created to do. Living within man allows God to participate in his creation, which (it seems to me) he would be unable to do otherwise, since he abides outside of his creation.

Anyway, that will serve as an introduction to my studies below, but these aren’t totally my studies alone. They have been inspired by and guided by Dr. Don K. Preston’s You Tube videos: The Nature of the Kingdom.
